On the 12 and 13th May delegates from the eel aquaculture industry from across Europe met for the first time ever under the Chairmanship of Andrew Kerr (SEG) in Hamburg to consider the issues of sustainability in eel farming. (Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Holland, France and UK).
There were two major conclusions – the first was to pay for and commission the development of a Sustainable Eel Standard that the industry would adopt and the second was for the industry to jointly develop a European approach to communicating the positive aspects of eating sustainable eel.
Matt Gollock and Jo Gascoigne will publish the minutes next week.
